Pstwo disassembly –
Can someone here please provide some informations from their experience on how to take apart the pstwo? All the pictures and manuals i have found were kind of confusing, some of them only show you which screw to unscrew, and the one from a website only let you see half of the full manual. I need some detailed instruction on how to take it apart!!
Every guide on the net ive come across is more then enough info to take apart a PStwo. Someone could go into it blind and take one apart easily.
1) Unscrew six screws from bottom of case shell - two are under the rubber pads
2) If you do not want to disrupt the warranty sticker open the case shell like a book, otherwise cut the sticker or peel it off
3) Unscrew 4 screws that hold the laser cart in place
4a) Remove laser cart by disconnecting the ribbon at back of laser head and ribbon that connects the disc spin motor and unscrew single screw under laser cart assembly
4b) lift laser cart up enough to get access to unscrew single screw under cart assembly, then use electrical tape to hold laser cart in place without screws (This way you do not have to disconnect ribbons if you worried about them)
5) Disconnect power/rest switch wires and unscrew small screw located by controller plug in/memory card area
6) Remove board assembly and flip upside down (This is why you want to tape laser cart in place if you choose that method)
7) Unscrew 4 screws that attach the motherboard backing shield on
Now you have access to work area for installing Magic V KX
thx for the steps, but how do you remove the motherboard? Do you pry it open or does it comes off after the screws are removed? And what about the plastic stud that is located in between the power connector and the video out socket?
Btw, how do you open it like a book, i try to do that but the pstwo seem quite stuck together, i am afraid that if i used a little more force something might break.

Neither of mine had a "plastic" hook.
Nothing really holds the motherboard to the case shell, it just sits in the case. The only screw that holds any prt of the motherboard assembly to the case is the single screw by the memory port/Controller plug in ports.
As for opening it like a book all i can say is thats how i did it without disturbing the sticker. If you worried about breaking something then just cut the sticker or peel it.
Both of the pstwos I did had the plastic hook and it was a pain to remove the damn thing. The plastic hook actually broke off. No way to get around this I guess. I don't notice anything wrong with the console without the plastic hook. No physical appearance damage or anything.
i too was afraid to damage the mobo, i had to pull hard on it
so what did you guys use to pry the mobo away from the case?
what do you use to pry? A screwdriver? And where do you start prying?
How would I disassemble a v12? I cant see any screws.
