ps2 version 5/6?

i'm having a little trouble figuring out which version my ps2 is and i was hoping all you wonderful people out there could give me a hand.

NTSC SCPH-30001 R
serial #: U482xxxx
PT248xxxxxx
Date code 2B
and it's got the screw in the expansion bay

i read somewhere about opening up the ps2 to check the bios, but i've never taken one apart before and am afraid i'll break something on accident. i was hoping that the version could be determined from all that info, but i'll open it up as a last resort...

It's a v6. Disassembly instructions are in the FAq in this forum.

awwww... damnit. are there any detailed reviews of the new batch of m2's in a US version 6 console?

No need for detailed reviews. The new batch recognises the US v6 and then behaves as per reviews on other PS2s.
