Guys : I have A version 5 that i put a crystal chip in, turns out after install i get no disk spin, it tries about 5 times then quits. I then checked the fuses , which all are ok. I then pulled mod chip out, i still have no spin.
Next i checked each solder point for shorts /bobs etc. all look fine .

I am now thinking of swaping laser units, but the only one i have to swap with is a version 7, is it ok to swap the two ????

also after this i am at a loss at where to look next, if any one can advise please do.

first, you can switch the laser if its the same model

(it says on a little sticker on a the side)

    but ure V7 will prolly have a 400c and i think the V5's have a 400B

Anyway, sounds like youve burnt ure LA (think its the LA chip) out, you need to fix this by the sounds

    Also check for solder splash

Most v5 are using 400R lasers and some v7 use 400R and 400C lasers. 400C and 400R lasers are not interchangeble. It can only be changed by using lenschanger program. V9/V10 is using LA6508 chip and v5/v6/v7/v8 is using BA5815FM chip. These 2 chips control tracking and focusing the lens. If LA or BA chip is burnt, there will be no video and audio. Check the the ribbon cable that connects from the lens to the mainboard. I've encountered this problem before and after I change the ribbon cable it was fine.
