ps2 v5 won't play dvd's

Installed MI to v5 ps2. All seemed to be fine. dc's worked fine when tested but dvd's didn't work at all. Checked soldering points all seemed fine. So desited to test without chip and DVD's still don't work.
what shouls i check to get it read dvd's

Ok, so it does turn on and goto the browser screen. Does cds work?

Cd's work fine - I would suspect you have a duff laser
