Ps2 Switches off after few minutes play

Hi,

I had my v5 modded with a messiah 2 by a pro, when I got it back it worked fine for a few hours, now all games stop after 2 or 3 minutes play, it just goes into stand-by. Turn it back on again and you get the red screen saying there's no disc.

Took it back to the installer, he has a look and a capacitor which had broken off previously (before this install) was loose again. So we get it back and it works for a few hours but is now back to turning off itself. Opened it up to have a look and the dodgy capacitor is intact, installer has looked over all the wires and they're all good. The ribbon cable for the switches is kinda crumpled and might be damaged, could that be the cause?

Yes - the ribbon cable is often a cause of similar symptoms. It moves or settles and shazam ...

Of course it could be sometning else.

installer is good enough to do a M2 Pro, but he damages the ribbon cable? Either it was his fault or yours, but that shouldn't have happened if he did it, i had an installer break the clip off the side of my dvddrive in my now broke PS2 (the part that holds the eject/reset ribbon cable in place. It was all crunched up and he never told me about it. damn basterds

Well I've replaced the ribbon cable and it's still doing the same thing, not the result I was looking for. I'm gonna give it back to the guy again to see what he thinks, though he reckons all his connections etc are fine, could it be a faulty chip?

This may be an overheating issue... PS2 shuts off itself when the unit gets too hot.

Is the fan working properly?

First of all check to see if your FAN is spinning.
Also, when the PS2 shut's it self down, does the POWER light flash RED ?

If so then check the following.

1) The Fan is connected
2) The onboard inline fuses are intact. (Use a multimeter)

The fuses are well known to blow when the Messiah has got it's nasty 5v lines on the PS2 board..

Yep, this seems to be an overheating problem, though the fan's always been working. The ps2 goes into standby and the light flashes red then refuses to acknowlege any discs. The installer says he's found a broken fuse but he can bypass it somehow, is this recommended? I don't know if I'd be able to track down a ps2 fuse in the uk..

A fuse should not be bypassed. It should be replaced. If it's overheating it may be that the heat conducting pads are missing and thus not taking heat to the metal cage.

Maybe...he shouldn't have taken them off in the first place :rolleyes:
