Is PS2 repairable? –
Just wanted to know if my V5 NTSC ps2 is repairable, I originally had a magic 2 in it and one day it stopped reading dvds. I took out the magic chip and I eventually fixed this problem after adjusting the white cog for the laser. I figured I should get a DMS3 and mod it again. My mod went fowl when i bridged 5 pins on the bios. I ended up cleaning it with flux and soldering braid. I never got the PS2 to operate correctly when trying to install the DMS3. Since the ps2 went through alot i gave up and removed the dms3 chip from it to see if it would work correctly, but it didn't. As far as I know the SCEX point and areas where the 5 pins were bridged were exposed to the soldering iron for long periods of time to remove extra solder and might be burned.
Here are the symptoms:
1. Most of the time the Graphics are messed up, untextured polgons and screwed fonts are shown on the start up screen, browser, or game. The spinning lights don't spin at the browser(this never messed up the funtionality though).
2. DVD(+R/RW) movie playback works but after 10 min or so the PS2 will freeze (sometimes freezes sometimes makes it through entire movie).
3. Controller will sometimes fail during game play, loses ability to move left or loses all funtionality.
The serious problem is the corrupted graphics, games totally freeze or stop responding totally.
Was wondering if the ps2 can be fixed or should be scrapped for parts. Just don't wanna see the old console go.
Any advice would help
have you cleaned the laser? also what brand of recordable dvds are you using?
if it powers up it can be fix, but the question is, is it worth it money wise or is it best to buy a new one check out freedomlives they repair everything.
Cleaned the laser, it runs all media right now (cd games, DVD games, DVD, +R/RW movies). There is no modchip in it at all, but the problems I mentioned still exist. If anyone else can't see a fix maybe i'll just scrap it for parts. Any more suggestions to help my poor V5 ps2
I already bought a brand new V7 and tried modding (DMS3) last night. Everything is going really well and I'm trying to be more careful with this ps2. Need to finish remaining bios points and cd/dvd controller. I followed the twisted wire method for points D&E and using double sided tape with super glue to lay the wires flat. Hoping the ps2 works right out of the mod job
