ps2 powersupply popping fuses
ps2 powersupply popping fuses –
alright here's my problem got a gh-022 39001 v7. first installed a magic3 and the mod was bad, go figure, so made my buddy buy a messiah 2 pro 1.3 , nice! and after pulling out the bad magic3 the ps2 was popping the glass fuse on the power supply, so i decided to take it out replace the fuse, and just connect the switch and not connect it to the motherboard to make sure it was the power supply and not the ps2 mobo doing it or shorting something out. so as i confirmed by doing this it still popped the glass fuse when it wasnt connected to the mobo. now i checked the 6 black diodes on the bottom left of the power supply and the majority of them read a few megaohms continuity while 2 read 0.00 ohms, so im presuming that these are bad and whats causing it to pop fuses like crazy. if anyone has had any problems or experience like that please let me know, how i can go about fixing the power supply so i can get my buddies ps2 modded with the messiah 2 pro!
ps. i also pulled a v5 power supply and tested it on his mobo and it boots up fine, so this confirms the power supply is messed
buy a new power supply.. i recommend http://www.richspsxparts.com he is cool and trustworthy $25 bucks free shipping.. cant beat that
well i will buy a new one if i have too im gonna try to replace the diodes and the new thing i just found a 22k resistor on the middle of the psu is blown also. so if worse comes to worse ill shell out the cash for the new one.
Check the 4 rectifier diodes I fixed many of broken power supplies with one of the diodes being blown out. If your not sure which one's are the rectifier diodes check all the diodes for continuity, the one with continuity is the culprit
You sure that they are all diodes? on the PS2 main board at least the fuses look pretty much like diodes except for the fact that they have numbers instead of polarity lines.
I would replace the resistor first and then try agian before buying a new powersuply...
just be careful... I can remember playing around with a stuffed PS1 powersupply once... the transformer ended up blowing itself to shit with a very loud bang.... scared the crap out of me - was almost like a fireworks going off...
my fault though - I got sick of replacing fuses each time I tested so I just wrapped some solder aound the socket - very fine solder... hopping that it would melt away before doing something like... blowing the bloody tranformer...
you live and learn... solder is no good to replace quick blow fuses...
if the diodes check ok, then check the component in the middle screwed to a heat sink that looks like a power transistor marked K2700 for continuity accross all pins, continuity accros all pins = dead replace it and it should stop popping fuses
anybody happen to have those diodes 2 of them have continuity and one 22k resistor has continuity also. i checked the big mosfets and they look ok.
the rectified diodes are marked rl155 btw
