PS2 plays PS2 games (all) but not PSX games –
A strange thing happened today. After chipping a V7 PS2 with Magic 2 I had found that it did not load PS2 DVD-R games. Tested other functions, PSX (original and backups), DVD films, PS2 CD-Rs and all worked fine. I replaced the Magic2 with a Magic3, and that solved the DVD-R problem. Started testing the machine, PS2 CD-R, PS2 DVD-R, original PS2 CD-R and DVD-R all just went fine. Then I put a PSX game in and the following thing happened:
Disk spins up, PS2 identifies the disk normally, but when the PSX logo should come up, there's nothing but a black screen, the game does not load, the disk just spins. (no RSOD, no browser, the machine bypass that)
Well,I removed the chip, thinking that it was bad, but removing the chip did not help, still no PSX game loads at all. All PS2 originals just load fine, DVD films aswell, but no PSX games.
Does anyone know what it is, and how to solve this ? I checked the motherboard, it seem there's no bridges, so I don't know what the hell it is...
Please, if anyone could help, give me some idea what to check...
I know this is a stupid suggestion, but have you cleaned the lens or the ps1 disks?
Yes, the disk is clean, and so the lens aswell, as I said the PS2 cd's (originals now, as I removed the chip) work fine. I'm sure the machine worked fine earlier, as I wrote even with PSX disks, don't know what happened.
I ran into the same problem with a Magic 3 on a Jap system.. No PSX backups boot, but it did when an older chip was in there. With that being said what do you guys think could be wrong? It was suggested that I patch the PSX games. Now I think about it none of them were ever patched and they booted just fine before this Magic 3.1 was installed. All PS2 load with no problems.. Might there be an alternate point for PSX games and Magic chip that we need to visit?
