ps2 not working with dvds

I was wondering if anyone knows how to fix a ps2 that doesn't seem to play dvd disc. I was told it would cost 120$ from a sony store, and i'd like to know if i could fix this myself. I forgot to say that it was never modified with a chip.

....or the lens needs cleaning with a cleaning CD (the one with brushes)

I'll try cleaning it real good with cd, but if not, do you know where i can get a new laser?

www.lik-sang.com still sells them i think
im pretty sure www.playstationmods.com sells lasers too

I was looking around these two sites, and they don't mention giving intructions on how to replace the laser. Do you nkow if there is a site that gives picture and a step by step intruction for this type of repair? Thanks in advance
