PS2 not loading PS1 games

Hi everyone, I have a modded PS2 (V4) that my friend modded for me. It is a DUO mod chip. The problem that I am experiencing is it will only load some PS1 games, and usually only if the PS2 is standing upright. Also, sometimes the ps2 makes noise when loading, but I think some noise is normal. Any ideas as to what the problem may be and ways to diagnose and remedy it?

Since PSX games are all on CD, I assume that your PS2 (laser) has some problems reading CDs, and will work well with DVDs.

Your laser might be getting a little dirty. V4 are pretty old so I think the dust might be stacking up.

If it's booting the media sometimes then the boot chip is working. This is probably a laser problem.
