Hello Everyone I have bought a new PS2 schph-90004. I want to soft mod my ps2 and not able to find any information on it. While googling I found that this site is the best to get help.

could someone please help in on how to soft mod my ps2? I enquired about the mod chip and it is very costlier

i think sony changed the bios so you cant use fmcb on scph-9000x
but if u dont want a mod chip there is always swapmagic+usb advance or usbextreme

there's some misinformation in what you said lolwut.

on the date code on the back, look for a 2 character code. hopefully you have an 8B. 8C and later are confirmed to not work with FMCB.

8C has the known BIOS revision 230 which negates the systems ability to load up FMCB. BIOS revision 220 (in 8B) can. be aware that some 8B systems have the newer BIOS in it. so it's pretty much a crap shoot.

well like bootlegninja said see if your ps2 version is compatible with fmcb
if not you can either:
-get a modchip installed
-buy usb extreme
-buy swapmagic

but do you have any method to run backups and homebrew ? like a modchip or Swap Magic ( not downloaded one) cheat device such as AR Max or CodeBreaker etc.

Are there Magic Keys, flip-top replacement housings, swap tools, or mod chip diagrams for the 90001 units?

as far as I know swapmagic is not available in India. what other option do I have? can swapmagic be ordered online and get it shipped to India? also will the swapamagic bought in a different country work here?

You should take that sucker back, tell them its broken, buy one from someone here in the forums that already does what you want. In the case of ps2's, in my opinion, "brand new" is NOT the most valuable, in fact (thanks to your report) I wouldnt take one of those further than the garbage can, much less buy one. USED and OLDER the better, preferable, used by someone who knows how to use one, and you are in a safe place to find one, right here.
