Get the Matrix Infinity.
If all you want to do is play backups, save yourself the money and get a Duo2 SE. It's a no frills chip that's easy to work with.
Duo2 SE is no more than $21 at most places
Matrix Infinity is usually $45 at most places
Why pay for features you'll never even use (or in some cases, never even know about)?
do either have to do that swap thing with the original version?
No. Matrix autoboot everything making your life MUCH easier. Duo i believe you have to press a button for each type of cd you want. Just go with Matrix Infinity.
Well you have to ask yourself if autoboot is worth double the price of a Duo. Personally I have nothing against pressing the Reset button from Standby to play my Suikoden IV backup. To further sweeten the deal, I got the chip for $9 from netmech. :D
heh, get a basic chip. Guy up there is making mode switching sound like swapping; besides, even with the matrix infinity it takes a little bit of time for the mode to autoswitch. Duo2 SE or Mars II / III are good.
I think that $20 is certainly worth the auto-detect. Don't forget that MI does Y-position fix and Pal<->NTSC.
The poster stated that 'he just wants to play backups', which says to me that he wants a no-hassles chip. What could be less of a hassle than an autodetecting chip where all you have to do is put your backup in like its a normal game?
Also, to answer aerofx: the MI does have a fast-boot option if the 2-3 second extra wait is too long for you ;-)
I would go with the MI.
Does it?Quote:

This was an old new article, but the only thing I could find which mentioned screen positioning for games. I have no MI so don't know..
He says he wants to play backups of his games which means the ones he owns and I seriously doubt he has any PAL games. I mean the MI is a great chip, but it's more than he needs. It's like telling him to buy a Hummer H2 to go to the supermarket and back so he won't run into any "hassles".
Believe me I'm a prolific backup-er and I've never run into a problem with the Duo and neither have my customers which should be nearing the hundred soon.
