PS2 and Modchip –
Not sure why the search function is not working so here goes. What PS2 models should I stay away from and which ones should I get. I'm thinking of buying one from ebay. I want to MOD it to so I can play my PS1 games on it as well. What MOD chip is the easiest to install or to get. Thanks.
old model ps2, as for what version if you can get a version 7, otherwise anything from version 4-10. as for what mod chip it really depends what functions you want to use. basic duo2se is good, i also hear H20 mod is good. then you have chips with extra features like matrix infinity, crystal chip, dms.
Thanks. Some have listed as SCH30...... Which ones are good? or how can they check which model they have? on the bottom? I hear that the Slim ones are no good. Any of thoes mods are non-solder? I just want the MOD to play backups. What other things can the mod chips do?
Also, is there a PS2 bootdisk to play backups instead of buying a mod chip?

this will help to find out what version http://www.norcalmods.com/view_doc.php?view_doc=9 the no solder mod chips are garbage, don't waste your money on one. as for the ps2 bootdisk to play backups there is swap magic disc but they don't play all games and it get old having to swap every time to play backups. just get a mod chip, if you are just wanting to play backups duo2se or H2O mod is fine. as for what other things mod chips can do, your going to have to look around as i don't know since all i do is use mine to play games, there is a homebrew forum to find out what else you can do http://www.ps2newz.net/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=19
There are also people selling pre-modded PS2's here in the B/S/T section. You may want to check those out as well. This will save you the time of first having to buy a PS2 from ebay and then sending it away to get it modded.
What makes version 7 the best?
It supposedly has the most durable laser (KHS-400C) and is easier to mod than other versions.
if possible stay away from slimline .. lol ...
i just got my ps2 slimline .. i still have my old v10 ... it kinda worries me bc slimline doesnt have fan, after playing for an hour you can feel the body is hot ... sometimes when ppl put the dvd wrongly (the 3 holder pins didnt "clicked").. u may ruin the dvd surface when the dvd spins ... in older ps2 versions you can just throw the disc onto the tray .. and play hours without worrying about console overheating ....
Your a little incorrect. The slim PSTwo's do actually have a fan. Its just not at the back were you can see it. Also its a common misconception that the slim gets hotter the the cubby ps2. The cubby ps2 gets just as hot but the casing is much farther away from the motherboard unlike the slim. The slim is so compact that all the internals are very close to the case making it appear like its getting much hotter then the previous versions, when in fact its not.
