PS2 making loud clicking/grinding noise during powerup, boots nothing
PS2 making loud clicking/grinding noise during powerup, boots nothing –
This is the 2nd time this has happened, for no reason. I try to turn on my PS2, and disc or no disc, it makes a loud grinding noise (the laser is trying to move farther than it can physically go into the center.)
How can I fix this? Last time I just dissassembled everything, sprayed it out with compressed air, and when I put it back together it worked again. Has anyone ever hard of this happening?
My PS2 isn't very old, either. I only got it at Christmas, and I only play it maybe an hour a week.
The microswitch that detects the sled moving towards the centre might not be working. Sony can repair this or you can take it back to the shop. Maybe IPA on that microswitch might make it work.
I know no one probably cares, but I fixed it. The reason, believe it or not, was that one of the 3 plugs that go from the DVD drive into the main board came unplugged somehow. I plugged it back in, and it worked perfectly.
Of course we care - it goes into the solved database. The microswitch signal wasn't getting back to the processor kind of thing.
