PS2 games load as PS1 –
09-24-2002,10:40 AM
After removing my Neo4.1 and installing a Messiah chip into my Ver4 gap rom NSTC machine all PS2 backups start to load as PS1 ... which means that they start to load the PS1 screen all garbled and then nothing ... If I play around with it abit with different loading tech. it will come up with the screen Unable to read disk ( the DVD screen then pops up ) ..... any ideas ?? Also every so often playing with the backups the cd tray opens and closes a pile of times ..... Any help would be greatly appriciated ...

I tried DVD movie backups no luck
It will not load any PS2 backups cd or dvd ??

DVD movie backups are typically VCD or SVCD which no stock PS2 is capable of reading, even with a mod chip, as the BIOS doesn't support that format natively.
As for your other woes, I'd highly suspect that you either have a wiring problem somewhere or have a v4 with a date code that is unsupported by the current Messiahs. Date codes 1A and 1B are known to be good to go. LOD installed a Messiah into my friend's u5 v4-1C a few months ago and it worked perfectly.
There was a list out at one time, perhaps Charlie might know as I've lost track...

I would look to some mis-install as a result of removing the noe4.1.
What about the cut track? Wasn't there a removerd component? And maybe there is a bridge on the BIOS.
Also the thing is sensitive to long wires and GND/3.3v need to be both short and 22 awg.
Finally look at the ribbon cables for some damage that moght cause the tray to popi in/out.

I reinstalled the removed component and have placed a wire over the cut in the track ... the PS2 works perfectly without the chip installed ( of course not without the obvious backups ) ... I am in the process right now of shortening all the wires and shoring up all the connections .... I was wondering if one point on the chip is responsible for PS2 backups as all the other functions work flawlessly ..
Also I did a search for PSX color fix and all I found was info about putting a switch on wire V ... I heard rumors about a cap install that would also work ? Anyone have any ideas as to the value of this cap and the install poits ?
Thanks

For backups the Messiah is sensitive to A-I and the BIOS connexions.
I would assume that nothing is bridged because the thing works natively. So if it is not a bad connexion to the A-I points, I come back to the Messiah's sensitivity to long wires.
It's ok just to cut the wires, join them with a solder blob (covering the mobo to prevent splatter) and then insulating the result. We put a rubber sheath on before joining and then roll the sheath over the join.
The PSX color fix is either a transistor across V or the switch on the V line I've described in various posts.
The capacitor is for some magic 2s that generate noise on the SCEx line and make DVD movies choppy.

Do you have any specs on the transistor ?

If you don't want to send away to Canada, LOD has them too. www.freedomlives.com
