I have a v7 w/X-02 (pro install) that has worked flawlessly for over two months. Today, I go to test a backup of Shinobi and the "Please insert PS2 or Psx software" pops up. So I figure that I am still in Psx mode since that is the last thing I booted a few days ago. I did a hard reset, same result, so I figured maybe I made a coaster. Next, I tried a backup of HSG 3 & NFS: HP 2 which I know work, same result. I then boot the Shinobi original, Psx original, and Psx backup without a problem. I have opened the machine and all the wires are still attached.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks

might be a straight instance of a dead chip. if it was a pro install though, u should be covered.

arrr, Issey if'n the chip were dead...would not the PSX backups fail as well? and only original items work on the unit? I just had a little prob with my PS2 over yon Holiday...me PS2 stoped playing all CD-media, but played DVD just fine...why, the blasted thing wouldn't even recognize me cleaning disc! So what I did was put the little beasty on me operatin' table, opened up its gullet and wiped clean the wee lense 'o de laser.

After puttin' me little buddy back together again, everything worked fine...and me laser seems quieter now too...no doubt it is cuz the little fella ain't workin' as hard anymore.

The point to me story is that mayhap mrolsen merely needs a cleanin' o his lens done....arrrrrrrrrr so it could be.

I was wrong, one of the connections (soldered to one of the VIAs on the DVD controller side) had come undone. It was hard to see because the wires were glued to the board and appeared to still be in place. I ended up breaking the connection to the other VIA removing the glue, but somehow managed to resolder both points and now all is well.
