I modded a pal 39003 with V7 magic-2. All seemed ok, but I wish I had read this forum first!!! The location for Magic-2 in installation pix is on the board under the heatshield There is no way I could screw heatshield over the Magic, so I just used 2 screws to lightly screw down heatshield...

An hour from cold the PS2 now hangs and goes into flashing green led, not ejecting, no display mode!! and thats with chip-removed.

If I wait for say 10mins and switch on again all appears normal.....for a little while before the same happens. Anyway I have now used ALL the small screws to hold down shield and keeping fingers crossed!!

    I wonder if I have perma-damaged PS2?

ust cut a hole in the right place on top of the metal cage above the Magic 2. That should releive the situation. I believe the PS2 is overheating.

    Thanks for the swift replies

I think Ill cut hole like you suggested, this will at least keep the Vcc wires as short as possible..

I also gently scraped away around where I had soldered a wire and read the resistance to an adjoining point..the resistance increased to 500 from 130 b4 a scrape! maybe this had something to do with it too. Well I am going to get kids to benchtest it without chip installed to see how it behaves, if OK will have another go.

Got a slight problem though, my Bic disposable razor wont fit between pins think ill pay a visit to supermarket lol...
