problems with a v1

A friend of mine tried installing a modchip in a v1 he started with the dvd controller and never made it past there, he got scared and bailed out of the install. Now when the cd/dvd drive starts spinning it keeps spinning faster and faster and faster. I tried making sure no solder bridges on dvd controller and that all the legs were soldered to the board, but that didn't help. Anyone have any possible tips or clues that might help me in solving this problem????

umm u sure there are no bridges? and that laser is connected corectly

Maybe the install has done the console some damage. If not, there might be some solder balls/spills in the area. If you cant get this to work and your friend is out of ideas then hand the ps2 to a pro to install the chip back and see if all goes well.
