problems with ModChip

I have a modded PS2 that was working quite well for 5 or so months. one day these problems appeared.
1.whenever I press the RESET button, the game does not boot again until I turn off the PS2 and then turned on again.
2.PSX games are now working with great difficulty and after many many tedious turn offs and turn ons of the system.
Unfortunately I don't recall the name of the modchip (I think it is magic something...??), and the dealer told me about a RESET, TURN OFF/ON combo button pressing in order to make my PS2 boot PSX, DVDs and PS2 games.
my ps2 is model SCPH 5XXX.
anyone have any ideas about this problem??

laser is going out more than likely

try cleaning/adjusting the laser.
