Problems after installing Duo2
Problems after installing Duo2 –
10-02-2004,02:50 PM
I just installed a Duo2 Modchip in my V5 ps2. When I first installed it I put in a DVD backup game and it booted fine and I played for several hours. Now when I put the same game in it will boot to the blue clouds, then load the game and the short Playstation logo will appear but then dissappear and hang at a black screen.
If I load my codebreaker first, then choose to start the game, the game will load fine, but then after the first cgi sequence of the game it will freeze at a black screen or hang on the graphics.
My ground wire is very thick and very short, and my wires are close to the motherboard. Some of the wires cross but not very often. I think all my connections are okay. Is there any trick to determining what is going wrong?
thanks

Sounds like a problem with the CD drive.. check all the little metal pins on those ribbon cables you pull out of the side of the motherboard. Make sure no pins are bent.

Have you gotten any further on this issue? I have a v5 myself with the same prob. Was modded with a Messiah 2, now removed. Machine locks up after Playstation 2 logo.
Seems laser is ok, as there are no ticking noises. There are no solder bridges.

Unfortunatly I have not. It is very strange as factory DVD's will boot okay with the modchip in but just not the backups. I am at a loss as to why they will not boot. I am thinking of buying a new version of PS2 and modding it. Perhaps the v5 has a bug or something. Probably not but that is my only guess. I guess it could be the media or DVD-R drive that has a problem, I don't know why though as Alcohol 120% seems to burn it without a hitch.
I am totally confused

Try this:
From "standby": Start machine with "eject"-button. Insert disc and press "eject"-again...
The "problem" you describe sounds like a similar problem with V9 mb with Ripper 2 Gold. I guess this is one of the limitations with 17/18 wire chips....
