hey.. I have a V7 here that i thought had a bad laser. replaced the laser and now only CDs will boot. I noticed that pin 7 on the BA near the laser is only 55ohms away from GND. Could it be blown and still read CDs? I tried w/ and w/o the Matrix chip in it. And tried adjusting the laser and the POTs (DVD is currently at 1000, factory was at 1560).

More than likely The BA is fine.
If pin 8 is open to ground the BA is bad.
    Try swapping the laser.

Yes, brand new laser (from richspsxpars.com). It's a 400C. Original laser was also a 400C

You should not have had to adjust the pots.
The only adjustment you need to make with his lasers is the angle of the laser and the heigth. I suggest you put the laser back to its original values and try the angle and heigth adjustments.

I have tried to adjust the angle (the black screw) quite a bit and didn't make any difference. I didn't try moving the white cog though.

You should set the laser back to its original values and try adjusting the heigth and angle.
How long have you had the laser set to 1000?
