problem with magic3 on a PAL v3

Just finished installing Magic 3 on a V3 PS2 and I have the following problem:
When I turn the PS2 on, I can open the tray and load backup disk but from that point, the tray won't eject. I booted the PS2 and turned it off, and took it out of the electricity socket and tried again but the tray doesn't open. when I press the eject button I, it blinks several times and then stops (and stays on).
The backup game is working so I guess the installation was fine - I checked the flats connections and seems fine.

Any help would be appriciated.

im having the same problem with a v3 gap version pal on a apple2, only it will eject, but wont withdraw the tray, copy games of all types boot fine when you force the draw shut. any help?
