Ok, so I just installed a Magic V onto a v5 PS2. The installation looks neat enough, and I even checked it a few times after problem first occured.

    Here's the situation:
    1. No backups will boot, cdr or dvdr.
    2. Originals will boot.
    3. I'm pretty confident of my soldering skills to not have a bridge somewhere. I didn't screw up.

So what do you think is the problem here? A defected chip? Or is the laser finally coming to its end? I'm waiting for an answer. Thanks.

How fast are you burning those backups?

2x. They're the same backups that I'm using on another PS2. Work fine.

One more detail I forgot to mention. I get a black screen where the PLAYSTATION 2 logo's supposed to appear.

I just replaced the laser with a new one and well...it doesn't work. Looks like it's a problem with my installation or the modchip. How do I check to see if a modchip's working or not?

Ok, so I held reset and the original game booted (it doesn't boot if I don't hold reset button). So is it my installation? What are the points that might cause this problem? Thanks.

Eh...this problem still persists. I'll try to install another modchip today.

If you figure it out, let me know. I have had this same issue a long time. I was told it might be the mod chip.

You have clone MAGIC V thats why you don't have logo and your chip is not working good.

@itmaster: no, that's not it. nevermind.

@yellotang: yeah, it's the modchip. Damn thing isn't working. I removed it and installed another chip. Works first time. Hope you'll fix your problem as well.
