    result:

    Original DVD movie : OK
Copied PS2 CD-R : OKAnyway, when testing it, I got the following ! (now I'm thinkig, this is great! it works!)
Copied PS1 CD-R : Red Screen of DEATH!!!

I haven't been able to test with DVD-Rs, or original games.. I'm working on getting some right now...

Is there a way to test the chip itself?

I know on there website I saw that it said pal to version 7 not ntsc then on modchip.ca had it for ntsc usa only version 7 magic 2.

I know for me I will stick with canada becauise its cheaper to call them up to trouble shoot and for lik sang that is way over sees.

I think modchip.ca has better customer service and tech support. Thats my opinion.

Thanks for the advice.. This is the kind of advice you always get AFTER you buy the product.. I just saw that canada will give you the wires...

Unfortunately, I'm stuck with a non-working system.. Any ideas on testing the actual chip? or what my problem could be?

    Thanks

The psx mode can be fixed...see my thread here:
    http://www.modchipforums.com/forums/...&threadid=2953

note: you can also probably use a neo2.x to fix it even though I didn't.

thats why as for me I am taking my time before buying it. Guici and a few others in this forum have been helping me by putting my mind at ease.

I saw what lik sang had on there web site and to me in my opinion I didnt see nothing that said it will work with v7 ntsch 3900 ps2 models only pals then in modchip.ca it had the ntsch compatable which makes since because canada and united states does use ntsch format and the other site is in hong kong which is pal versions.

I also noticed that modchip.ca has a telephone number and you can call them and at the same time it says when you order you can see the private help documentations of how to install it and also how to make the backups on the ps2 games. I think they are the best in tech support goes and even if they were more money to buy it from them I still think it will be worth it because they are willing to help you. And that to me is worth more than saving a few dollars.

Again thats my two cents and my opinion on this matter.

Well I ordered from Lik-Sang because they had the NTSC Messiah on pre-order.. since the guys at China-Messiah didn't release it on time, Lik Sang people were very prompt and efficient in apologizing and offering a solution, that is, the NTSC Magic II.. They DO announce it as a USA version, and show instructions for USA installations.. their good Cust. service is what motivated me to not cancel the order and change over to their magic II offer...

Now, that is the past and I can't do anything about it.. Does somebody have a clue about my problem, the whole thing about PS2 CD-R's working and PS1 CD-R's not...

Please help me find a solution..

My situation looks almost exactly as what you had.. except that my ps2 cd backups DO work very well, the drive squeaks a bit (sometimes a lot) but that's just cheap media.. and the games work allright...

However, It may very well be a chip problem.. are all the V7 chips available now from this batch? or is it just a lucky pick situation?

I don't think I can afford to buy two chips.. I've spent so much already.. Do you recommend returning my chip and requesting a replacement hoping for a good one?

    Thanks

ok I think it may have to do with the way you soldered it. Here is a pic as for a version 7 board should be soldered to. Also I read that the wire should be a certain size but first here is the site that will make you as a pro to solder. look at the pictures and see if you by accident did not solder the way they are showing you.

    http://www.circuittechctr.com/guides/6-1.htm
here is the size of the wire that should be used for the volts

For soldering the power and ground wires, please use a thicker cable (22awg=21swg)

For soldering to the other points, please use 32awg = 34swg cable

I just noticed this too on the manufactures website
    - Direct boot all PS2 Media (CD/CD-R/DVD/DVD-R/DVD Silver/ Import Original) except for PAL V7 (see below).

    - There is a restriction on the Magic 2 v7 applicable to PAL PS2s whereby it can only play PS1 games for the same region as the PS2. So a PAL v7 can only play PAL PS1 games (30002/3/4 are interchangeable in this regard).

With the disk assumed in the tray and the tray closed:

    - For PS2 games, power up normally from STANDBY with RESET button. A single tap is required.

    - For PS1 games & DVD Movies, power up from STANDBY with RESET button held until the blue EJECT light comes on; then release RESET and the disk will boot.

    - Please turn off the PS2 (to standby) before changing Mode (PS1/PS2/DVD)

this is the chip position as to where the magic cip should be place to.

    Hope this helps
