    Hi
I have a Messiah 2 pro installed on my V5/6 PAL ps2 with almost a year and it has worked flawlessly until now. Its just one backup that won't work - Colin McRae Rally 4. It worked fine until the other day when it wouldn't load the game. It recognises the disc and shows the playstation 2 logo but then it tries to read and goes to the screen where it shows the option of selecting either the memory card or the disc. I made a fresh backup of the game and still the same thing. Other backups seem to work fine, such as FIFA 2003 and Driver 3. Any idea what this the problem is?
    Cheers,
    Mike.

Sounds like your laser is now starting to get picky!

Normally this would mean a string off problems, with a downward
spiral until the laser finally completely CRAPS out on you!

What part of IRELAND are you from???

    Sorry!!!

Yeah, tricky one this. Is Rally 4 on the same kind of media as the other titles? Try a test by burning it on another type... and really slow.

Hard to diagnose these hit-n-miss issues, but at least you can reduce the possibilities with some basic troubleshooting. But like Homer said, most likely the laser.

Yes, use other media (at a slower write speed) or adjust the white cog/azimuth (if you know how to do it, but be VERY carefull) but don't think it will be much better for a long time. As Homer said it's a laser problem, you'll need a new one sooner or later.

    regards, Stephen

    Cheers lads,
I don't think its the media, its datawrite red and I used it on other games and it worked fine. I was thinking it could be the laser alright, but could it be a wire that came loose?

Well, media does MATTER, if the old games (on the same type of media) were written at different speed or in a different writer. Also, it's not sure the dye itself is the same. Brand names cover many times different dye type. Anyway, why don't you go for Verbatim DVD-R for example, it is one of the best media, and used to work even with weak lasers. *of course when it's not written at 1000x speed, hehe* Loosy wire is not a possible problem, that would cause not booting with different games aswell.

If he is going to go with a different brand off media and dye he is better to go with the RITEKs as thats what are easier to get here in Ireland!

Thats what i use but i never burn many dvd's, just if i get a new game!

Mine are - DATASAFE 4X RITEK from www.blankdiscshop.co.uk

    they will look after you!
