Probable cause? Laser vs Media?
Probable cause? Laser vs Media? –

Ok heres the situation, PS2 v5/6 with a dms 3.
I havnt any DVDR media yet , gonna get me som ritek g04s soon as I have the cash they seemed to be rated the best, the CDr i have are 700MB Memorex.
I would of thought the mod chip is installed fine as it boots PS1 backups ok and it boots the Snes station disk too in Ps2 mode.
Recently it stoped reading discs alltogether, ive only just modded my ps2 so i wouldnt of though too much wear and tear has been applied on the laser.. so I carefully cleaned the laser and that fixed that problem.
The problem im having at the moment since i cant test dvdr is that the backups that I have made of ps2 cdr games dont work, i have also dms explorer and that doesnt boot either.
Would you say that its simply the media or the laser needs adjusting, or even cleaning again.

What did you use to burn the discs? 1:1 or Backup>>Burn?
You might need to clean and do a cog adjustment on the laser, refer to THIS site.

I use Nero... made images first then burnt.
What would you do in order then?
Clean
White Cog
Azimuth
Pots
Checking improvements after each??

Well its definatly a laser problem i think , I got some different CDr's and burnt a couple of things and they work first time , still no DVD media morking yet as I havnt adjusted anything , but I have some lovelly ritek DVD-r's on there way to me as we speak..
So as said above, Clean laser then Check if works better - White cog - Check - Azimuth screw - check and then Pots - Check?
Or in some cases would adjusting the pots solve it straight away?
The other Cd i tried I heard skipping, thats why i think its the laser and not the mod, havnt had much mod trouble.

CLean first - test
then do the pot on the side that is having the trouble i.e. the CDR side. www.cyber-mag.com/station/laser.html#sectC
follow instructions carefully.
The cog and black screw adjustments rarely do anything for you.
The black screw should never need to be adjusted.
the white cog only if the station has been dropped or is really shitty at reading data from the outer edge of the CD / DVD.

Ok thanks shadowknight,
It wasnt reading anything, i cleaned the laser, then it read cd's perfect but still no dvds.
I think maybe it needs a better cleaning and adjusting the pots to be perfect... ( I dont have a Multimeter yet, im getting one) but im pretty confident i can fix it from here on, thanks for your help.
