I have a v9 with a duo2 SE installed, network adapter and 20Gb hdd, which I know is working ok because it boots hdloader off cd-rom a couple of times, but that“s the problem, the optical drive has some problem: I exchanged it for 3 working lenses and all show the same symptoms: bad reading. I tried adjusting the angle on the lens and white cog but the boot rate is better but still not acceptable and I have people offering to buy the machine, so I put in a hard drive but want to boot off mem card I think its a good solution, but will I have to switch the modchip? is there any onter solution? what do you advise? thanx

as he's got a v9, dev mode is not necessary.he can use memory card exploit to boot hdloader from memory card as long as the laser can read PS1 cd.

Have the same problems with the Duo SE, see that the latest DUO GT claims to be HDloader compatible.
Burnd a lot of downloaded HDloader or Lenschanger isoos and booting succes was only 20 %.
Found solution by making the isoos by CDGENPS2 put the HDloader system.cnf first in the window and rightclick on edit, change the fix LBA to 12231 and than drag the hdloader.elf file in the CDGENPS2 window and make an iso.
    Have now 100% bootrate.

I didn“t know that you could reprogram these chips. How do you go about doing this? For now I“m going to try Jacques' solution by burning custom hdloader with cdgenps2, but if that doesn“t work I“m going to try removing the duo and install a crystal chip. What do you think? How hard is it to boot hdloader from memcard with the crystal?

to boot elf from memory card can be done with any unmodded fat PS2, although the exploit can only be installed by a modded PS2. dev mode is not necessary if you use PS1 game as a trigger. Duo2se is just fine.

that's just fine but the objective is not using the laser lens to read media

but even if he uses the ps1 trigger disc it is only going to spin for a quick sec. before hdloader starts then it stops. so the wear on his disc still wont be as excessive as it would be if he just played backups on disc.

ok, fair enough then you should use dev mode compatibale modchip. but who cares reading media or not because the laser only reads the PS1 for a very short time and stops.
