I have a v7 ps2 and dms3 that i very half-ass installed. I should've waited until I got the right wires but I didn't. I used a split up IDE cable and didnt have a super fine tip on my soldering iron. Now to my questions and my problem.
I half-ass installed the chip and went to turn it on... I got it to power up, the fan turned on, and the LEDs on the front lit up. My dvd drive tray does not open when hitting the eject button, the tv screen stays completely black, and there is no sound what-so-ever. I took the modchip out and the ps2 acted the same way. Please explain what is wrong with it.
How can I use my multimeter to determine whether or not I have fried my DMS3 chip as well as my ps2?
I have accepted that my ps2 now makes a nice paperweight, but I would at least like to be able to use my DMS3 on another ps2.
I understand most concepts of electronics, I was just a lazy ass with a "I'll just buy another one" attitude. So feel free to talk to me without dumbing it down.

Remove mod from PS2, leave Mod wires connected to PS2 motherboard.
Test PS2. If works correctly resolder wires to DMS3 with care.
If PS2 still not work after removing the Modchip than remove also wires, clean very good all solder points and test again ps2.
If work than you had installation problem. If not work than look for shorts around the area where you soldered.
If you find no short write here again telling exactly the behaviour of the PS2 and we will tell you what could be the problem.
