Playstation 2 in Thailand
Playstation 2 in Thailand –
I want to purchase a PS2 for family living in thailand.
Am i better to buy it here in New Zealand?
It is PAL in NZ and zone 4
In thailand it is zone 3
I think it is NTSC in thailand.
Games in thailand are in thai or Japanese?
What are prices like to buy in thailand?
$500 in NZ
Any ideas Guys
you are probably better off buying it in Thailand. When I was on vacation in Thailand last year (dec. 02), I stopped by the big computer mall. I didn't see what the prices were for brand new ps2 consoles, but one shop had a used one for little over US$100. I'm pretty sure Thailand is PAL (not 100% sure). At least one of the display consoles was playing PAL games when I was walking by and I asked.
As for games... they play a hilarious cat and mouse game with the police. Sheer comedy. Image a huge indoor mall with tons of small booths where everyone sells the latest pirated ps2 games (PAL and NTSC), DVD movies, computier software, mp3's, music cd... All of sudden you'll see EVERYONE close shop in 5 min flat! When asked, the vendors say "police coming, come back in 10 minutes". Then later, you see everyone put back all the pirated stuff back on display!! The 2nd day I was there the police did catch one of the bigger stores redhanded and confiscated all the "goodies". Considering the availability of pirated games, I'm sure they sell modded consoles (I didn't really check). And mod chips in Asia are dirt cheap...
Oh My God Pakman! LOL, same thing happened when my father was getting us movies from there!
actually, if you buy the RIGHT MODEL ps2 for thailand, it's NTSC J
Region 3 = NTSC... there is no Region 3 PAL though (i wouldn't think)
the only pal regions are 2 and 4... if i'm not mistaken..
the games will be jap and eng, not Thai, so get a modded one..
that site is BS.. the HK ps2 (Thailand ps2, same one) is NTSC J, there's no way HK can be PAL...
i have the ps2 for proof, and so does Charles Playstation 2.
also, voltage for HK is 220...
that's interestings... I always thought TV's in Hong Kong and Thailand were PAL (that british legacy in asia...). anyways, again I am not 100% sure... Two DVD games I picked up (pressed silvers, not dvd-r's) ended up being PAL. Maybe considering all the tourist traffic, these were catering to UK tourists. Although one of the Thai shop owners say they play both ntsc and pal games in thailand. (again, don't know if its ntsc consoles playing patched pal games or vice versa...)
yes there are no Thai language ps2 games. they were all english or japanese. Dirt cheap too...
So what you think guys, buy in thailand and chip it in thailand as well,to play the copy DVD's?
Do you know which shop to purchase and chip it in thailand?
in Bangkok, i'd say in Tokyu Center, there's also Pantip Plaza to go to...
but last time i went to Tokyu, they had M3 and Apple 2 Diagrams if i'm not mistaken, but you'd have to ask for a PS2 Chipped work Messiah 2 Or DMS3, SCPH-39006 is the best model to get there, so grab one of those, it should be NTSC J.
pakman: there are pressed PAL Games, i have many of them..
yup, pantip plaza in bangkok (seems to be the most popular among the backpacking crowd...). Any taxi driver will know where it is. that's where I went... but there are other places as well...
