    Hi guys,
    I have just chipped a V3 gh-006 pal with a duo-se.
    I have a wierd problem.
When I connect pin Z the modchip fails and the dvd eject malfunctions.
I have cleaned up all around the Z point and the symptoms are the same.

The odd thing is if I leave pin Z disconnected then the duo seems to be working. I is booting up psx backups and ps2 backups?

Can anyone throw some light on this.

    What does pin Z do?

This is an old ps2 given to me as a freeby and i had some spare time so I only modded it for a backup.

    cheers

Z point has something with RESET function to do. What exactly it does i dunno, but I know that Z and RESET are connected. Maybe someone else can light this up, but if it works with psx and ps2 dont bother with the Z since it has something with reset (maybe enable/disable chip?) to do.
Hello. This is my signature. Nice? yeah? Thanks!

The "Z" signal is the eject signal. I'm not sure of the details but it's probably used to detect the eject button for mode switching / disabling and maybe to wake the chip up to reauthorize a disc after a swap...

    thanks for the reply guys.

Interestingly I found a similar problem after a trawl
    http://www.psx-scene.com/forums/showthread.php?t=17326
    http://www.psx-scene.com/forums/show...ight=eject+duo

I've brought the ps2 into work and had a thorough cleanup of the z area and resoldered the wire to the leg of the corresponding chip instead.

Will let you know the results later.
I will try adding a 10k resistor if the ps2 does not work next

I'd still be interested in further information on what are the effects on the modchip/ps2 booting up if Z is left unconnected?

    cheers

    Update:
Made no difference cleaning up all around the z area.

I paralleled a 10K resistor across the 4 bank of 10k's and it now works in fashion with z connected.

I press eject to start the disk comes out and then goes back in BUT it boots ps2 backups.

    Think I'll leave it there
