PIC programming Trouble
PIC programming Trouble –
Without a diagram off youre programmer I'm not able to help you... sorry..
I just built the same programmer as you Modordie, I'm going out later today to pick up some 12C508's. I'll let u know how it goes, possibly tomorrow.
For those who want a perfect programmer look here
This programmer supports all kind of chips and is working without problems with free software provided by the builder of this device and ICprog.
You can olso build it youreself with this diagram
I'm using the older version of this programmer for years afther I strugled mutch to long with JDM programmer
You can build this device if you would have a simple programmer.

Interface for PIC http://www.lancos.com/e2p/pic16-12sch.png
If you use Batterie you do not need to build external powersupply part if you dont use batterie you must build it otherwise it will not work properly.. I suggest build external power supply part is is very usefull when you want to use the base board for programming other devices.
i programmed and verified perfect. [i had to install win98SE on a hdd. would not work on same machine under XP].
now when i boot with both 1.5kOhm and 2.2kOhm it does NOT turn the system off after 3seconds...
The fuse settings are usually loaded by the .hex files but some programmers need you to set them manually.
For the matrix code they are : Internal RC Oscillator, WDT (Watchdog) enabled, Internal Reset.
You can also try to use the other .hex file included in the .zip. Maybe your software only loads correctly HEX8 or HEX16 files and not both.
where is this Internal Reset option?
[icprog or picall]...
this is so weird. i can program and verify with PICALL but when i program with ICProg, it gives no ocillator calibration value found and it fails on verify [0000h].
and PICALL will not load "h16" fix...
AND ICProg reads all 0FFF [crap] after i program AND verifiy PERFECTLY with PICALL. It really seems like there might be something wrong with ICProg and the current setup im using.. why would PICALL program and verify the PIC if its not right? does not make sense at all...

I am more than willing to help but please you have to read what I write
The ICprog problem is simply the software not recognizing the programmer. If you run the program with no programmer attached you get the same behaviour (oscillator calibration and verify error).
Since you seem to be able to program the pic with the other software we should concentrate on that. Can you post a pic of the sotware you are using after you load the hex file? You probably just need to enable the right settings and it should work.
Also, if you want to try Icprog, please post the OS you are using (win98, win2000, etc) and the programmer type that you selected in the configuration screen of icprog.
Since you now have a programmed pic (even if maybe partially programmed) it's much easier to find the right setting for icprog to work.
