Periodic RSOD's on v12
This one's got me baffled.
I've installed an Infinity in a v12. It left here working mint. A week later, customer says he gets RSOD more than half the time.
I got it back, and sure enough, 2 of first 3 boots were RSOD's. I checked my install over for cold joints, and touched up the b - i points. Even bumped up the firmware from 1.38 to 1.4. No joy. Copies still RS about half the time.
Anyone got any thoughts? Problematic chip? I used the summ0ne for the fix... the 560 Ohm resistor on the tracking coils. If 560 wasn't enough, it would go to the browser, right? not a RSOD?
downgrade the firmware and see if it gets better?
Mike, I suggest a quick test:
swap the laser, and see what happens. If everything boots fine, then it's the laser (maybe as others already discovered it's the famous V12 syndrome #2 (a weak laserdiode, see what Comsoft reported today)) otherwise it's the chip/board. Then I'd swap the chip itself.
pS: do CD-R backups also go to the RSOD ? Or just DVD-R's ?
Maybe he decreased the laser's reading ability by feeding it crappy media. I had a customer who fed his pstwo crappy media and it smoked. Luckily it still works and reads verbatims well.
