PAL games on NTSC –
10-21-2002,09:28 PM
Sorry for being such a newb but I am trying to find a solution to play PAL games on my V4 gap rom NTSC PS2. I was told that the Messiah was the only chip that would do this correctly but now after my chip was lost in the mail from modchip.ca, they offered to send me a Majic2 instead.
Will the Majic2 let me play PAL games or do I need to look for another chip?

Yes and Know. It will boot the game, but it wont be playable as NTSC TVs cant play PAL signals. If its a copy you can patch it tho.

Thanks. Now my question is if I am not in a hurry, should I wait for the Messiah2 or any other chip instead of Majic2?

If you are trying to run ps2 pal originals in ps2 it will not run, but, if its a backup, you can use the pal2ntsc program, that turns de pal to ntsc version....and you can burn it, and make it runs in your v4 ntsc

you can patch the files to get the game in color, but the screen will still be cut off, and it is by no small amount. You are missing about 1/4 of the bottom of the screen. Your only good option is to use hardware, either a PAL->NTSC converter box, or to install a chip that does the conversion for you. I don't know first hand which chips do this, maybe the messiah or the messiah 2. I know the red magic 2 from modchip.ca doesn't, because I have one, and well, it just doesn't. The matrix 3 claims to, but who knows if that chip is for real or not and if it is, when it is coming out. It seems like the messiah2 is available according to messiah2.com, but I don't know where to get one. If anyone does, then please let me know.

To add to dotkambot's sound advice, the PS2 with Magic 2 will happily play PAL games and put PAL out the back to the TV.
As Necro says, your NTSC TV, if not multi-system, will have a corrupted picture.
Multi-system TVs are available in the US from specialist companies and add a 10 - 15% premium in price over NTSC only TVs.
I should add that in Europe, standard retail TVs are multi-system.
