Hi all, i have a prob with this v5 i did a while ago, i chipped with an Messiah1, all worked fine on test, gave it the customer and he came back with it about a week later.

After about 40 mins of running the machine freezes, music jars and makes an awful din and upon reset the machine just goes to a black screen untill its left for a while.

I tried cleaning the heatsink contact points with PCB solvent cleaner, cleaned any traces of flux etc, tightened up the main metal frame as tight as poss and tried the machine again, all seemed well for about 90 mins when it froze again.

Ive tried alsorts to repair this, nothion seems to work, i had the lid off and a 14" desk fan blowing on it at one point and it still froze.

I have now taken off the chip and the prblem is still apparent, all solder points cleaned up.

    Any suggestions pleaaase!

The overheating symptom is the led of reset blinking in orange and PS2 dont come on.
Your problem is no overheating of cpu.
Try to resold all the points maybe have a dry solder(s).

Try resoldering the legs of the bios chip back to the mainboard, its possible there is a dry joint there.

Hello {{909}}, its a small world

We have seen this problem a few times on v5 units with Messiah 1s in. I'm not 100% on what the problem is but I think you will find its the age old laser problem and not a heat related thing.

Like I say we have had this a few times and due to the lack of v5 lasers have ended up doing a swap/repair with $ony on these units.
    Regards

    Tim

Hehe, this is a lot easier on IRC, but I'm on me laptop and don't have any IRC

Yeah the $ony thing is a a good service, its currently £65 and they swap the console out for a new/reconditioned unit via courier. Its normally next day
