  1. #1 Question Oscilloscope and eye pattern HELP
    shang504 Guest
I'm very tire of playing around with multi-meter with the cd / dvd laser pots adjustment. I decide to buy an old Hitachi V-203F 20Mhz Oscilloscope(I'm a newbie to oscilloscope). I'm testing on a USA V4 and know where the TP is located.

I set everything as in the document on using the scope, 20mV, .2us and at 20Mhz. I'm having a hack of a time reading the scope. When the PS2 powers on with CD or DVD, I see the pattern for 1 or 2 secs. When it starts to read the whole disc. The scope just shows fine line going up and down across the graph. When it stops reading the disc, the eye pattern flattens to a single line going across the graph on the scope.

The instruction says to wait until the disc is read but I get nothing because there's no cd/dvd read activity (flat line).

My question is do I need to buy a newer oscilloscope (the one I have is probably at least 10 years old)? How do you get the eye patterns like the print outs to stay when I only see it for no more than 2 seconds? Any help on how to set the oscilloscope up and getting the eye pattern on the scope to stay would greatly be appericated.

Also, if the Hitachi I'm working with doesn't work well, does anyone know of where and what brand I should buy. I'm looking to keep price down so just a a cheap oscilloscope that will do the job is fine for me.

    Thanks in advance,
    Seng

No not really now. I know what each setting does and how to adjust to get the right pattern but just can't seem to see the image that the document is talking about for more than a few secs in the beginning when I turned on the PS2. Now I'm just wondering if anyone has tried it and was successful and how they did it.
