Ordering overseas from Canada?

Sorry if this is the wrong forum to post in, but I thought it'd yield the best replies since so many people here order chips from all sorts of places.

I was just wondering if anyone from Canada has had issues with duties being charged on packages from HK. I was wanting to order chips from Lan-Kwei as well as other products, and just wanted to know whether I should factor in customs charges as well. A friend in the US has ordered from HK that was around $180 and said he wasn't charged a penny in extraneous fees, but that's the US.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

It's is somethings like a 20$ computer chip you shouldn't have a customs fee aswell as beeing marked as a gift

bigger the item chance of customs fee being tagged along.
