For a while now I have been pondering whether to sell my V4 PS2 and upgrade to a newer unit and get a modchip installed. But after seeing all the problems with the new chips etc I think for the moment I will stick with what I have.
Two years ago I bought a Neo 2.5 chip (which I installed myself) and use the Blue Boot CD along with DMC V1. I havn't had one problem so far. Even the new games work fine (I only use Verbatim DVD-Rs). Why in the world would i want to change the status quo. I quess if I can find a nice preloved moded PS2 I would consider it but at the moment I can happily put up with changing 2 discs to play my games. (which I only do every few weeks anyway).
We may thinks things have advanced.... Hmm. Judging by this forum I am not quite sure

Have we asked you to change your PS2?

if your laser is still going strong then there is no reason to replace your ps2 and im not sure why you are even suggesting it , but you really should upgrade to a no swap chip and get with the times , hell even a magic 3 would be better ....

Once you see a no-swap in effect you will see the way.

    Christ,
I didn't realise people around here are so touchy. I wasn't having a go. Just making an observations. If I bought a PS2 today I would not frig around with swapping discs. The no swap chips are the way to go. I am however amazed at how much trouble the new chips can cause. And this forum can attest to it. Perhaps they are getting too smart for their own good. Try to fit too much into them and something always falls off the other end - usually reliablity and compatibility.
Just remember people. 2c and chill out....

    soupratt,

I might object that it is not the new modchip getting more trouble
to the PS2, but the new PS2 being too much sensible and lower
quality of the "OLD" V4-V7 PS2 series.

I personally have no issues at all when modding old PS2 with
new modchips, but time by time I always get a troublemaking
V9 or V10 that makes me loose a couple of hours to make it work
    correctly.

    Chip&Chop.
