old modchip help –
09-30-2004,10:30 PM
I bought my PS2 and the modchip about 3 years ago. I'm not sure what mod chip it is but to play dvd-rs i have to hold down the reset button while starting gameshark v2, and when it goes into the main menu i eject the tray with the button, put in a different game (I've been using Final Fantasy X), then put the tray back in with the eject button. Then I have to go to "play without codes" so the disc will stop spinning, then i let go of the reset button and the tray will pop up automatically, where i then quickly switch the disc with my burnt game and the tray will go back in then i just press x and the game will run. This has been working for me everytime so far, but I recently obtained a burnt copy of Burnout 3 and Starwars Battlefront, and everytime i get to the part after i press X, it just goes to a black screen and stays there.
I think the guy who installed my modchip says the real game that i have to put in has to have more memory or something than the burnt game im trying to run, so my question is do these 2 games have more memory than ffx so I can't run it, or are the burnt games just screwed up?
Thanks to anyone that can help.

I found out that I just need a game with higher TOC. Does anyone know if Vice City has a higher TOC than battlefront or burnout 3? Because i tried booting using vice city too but they both dont work. it could just be that the dvds are screwed up though.

You've got the NEO 4 chip, buddy. In my opinion a crap chip. I think there once was a list over different TOC sizes, but nobody uses NEO4 anymore so it's probably discontinued.

I have the NOVA 2.0 swap chip which is similar to your chip as well. I cannot get copy protected games like SW Battlefront to work either. There is either a patch out there for it or we have to upgrade to a new chip. I played the original though and it's pretty good.
God Bless you.
