    Hi!
This afternoon a friend of mine had free time to solder for me..and I finally had my ps2 v14 ready with octapus chip
I inserted an ORIGINAL game( "Time Crisis") and it worked..ok..I was ready for most important attempt...
I inserted 3 DVD's (+r and -r) Verbatim.. some days before they worked perfectly with Swap Magic, so they are ok..but when I switched my ps2 on, after the main screen it appeared a text saying "Insert a PS2 Disc" or something like this.....I expected the game would have started as for original ones....should I press some key to "initialize" the chip? I think the chip is correctly installed and soldered, if needed I could post a pic, so that some Expert can confirm the work was correctly done..some other attempt I should try?
    Thanks,
    Luca

it sounds like a solder problem to me, does it comes with firmware installed? maybe you need to install a firmware first.
almost any chip do have some kind of wirware preinstalled...
have you tried a cd-r backup? like a psx game or a ps2 cdgame like the sims or ssx?
if they work fine you got yourself a solder problem.
if nothing works it can be a non firmware installed problem.

And most important. does the chip/firmware support v14? not all chip do!

Well, I think (and HOPE!!) Octapus chip has a preinstalled firmware, also because I don't know how programming it...
I dont' have cd-r for psx, this evening I'll take one from a friend of mine, will do a backup copy with Alcohol 120% and I'll try if it works...
I'm at my job now, during lunch pause I'll reopen the ps2 chassis and I'll take a photo of chip, wires and solders, hoping this help to find if w were wrong on something....can you suggest me the max Kb's I can use for attachment post?
    Thanks,
    Luca

    1.09MB for image files.
about installing new firmware. the most common is to find the chip manufacurer homepage. download a iso and burn it to a disk.

Im pretty sure they have preinstalled firmware. I think it might be your solder job or a lose wire.

yes i think so to. look like the only way to upgrade the firmware is to program it.

What's that wire below the ubicom chip? Can't find anything about that wire at the octapus site.
