ok im new and stupid.
hi everybody
i got a ps2 of a friend that had a burnt out power supply but i just replaced that with a pc psu i had.
now i want to use this as a divx player and i need help with which mod chip to get. I think i might get a H20 Orange or is there a better chip for what i want to do in this price range? and i read somewhere that this chip dosen't like a internal HDD is this true?
I have gooled all of this but im not 100% certain on most of this stuff
its a V3 playstation from aus.
thanks

You do not need a modchip to run divx on it. If you search for memory card exploit or independence day exploit he will be able to run homebrew on the ps2 and can run what is called SMS which is a media player which supports avi (divx) mp3 and more from networked computer, usb, dvd or internal hard drive. Just do a search.

can i play backup ps2 games with this as well but?
-
With the MC Exploit, yes if you include CogSwap or SwapMagic in the exploit files.
-
but doesn't the swap magic require one of those slide cards?
sorry about all the stupid questions.
-
yes it does, but its a very simple thing to do : Slide Trick
-
ah ok i just want a chip then. I don't want to mess around with sliding things and all that. I can solder so thats not going to be a problem.
-
what about the Xeno PS is this chip any good?
-
just like any other clone

Since you are new, clones are usually very bad HK mod chips that are copies of the Matrix Infinity. They usually die randomly (usually after flashing the firmware but they could die by just accessing the option menu), and they suck. I would highly recommend the MC exploit since you can run backups from a hard drive for basically free, but if you really want to solder your PS2 then I would go to the mod chip section and research what chip is good for you.
