well i dont know if this is the right place to post this but here it goes....ok I installed a magic v chip in my version 7...that all went fine...turned it on it booted some games and some froze up at the loading screen (gta:sa) ....anyway all was fine for a wile untill I decided i wanted to play an orignal ps2 game...nope all i got was disk read error....then every dvd format game orignal or not would not boot ...but cd ones would....so i figured laser is skrewed...replaced it..now i can boot orignals but after they load (loading going into a game area to play not just menus) all i get is a black screen the disk is still spinning but the laser seems to be doing nothing....i had to change the hight of the laser when i installed it other wise it was rubbing on the cd....ive tried backups nothing happens just clicks a few times then says disk read error or says its a ps2 game and when i try and play it it get to the screen that says playstation 2 then goes back to the browser...i havent tried cd based backups yet or ps1 orignal or backup yet....ive gotten so frustrated with this thing ...right now im debating taking the mod outa it and leaving it out hoping it will play orignals again someone please help me fix this ps2...i would rather have the chip in and be able to play backups.....HELP ME PLEASE im so frustrated at this thing i feel like smashing it

I don't have that chip but Magic 3.1

Well, as you said original disc 's working so you may need to check every single wire again, make sure no bridge between pins. Get an ohm meter to check it. Or maybe one of the wires got cold solder.

well actually ive looked and it looks like the laser didnt even have antistatic pads......i googled to figure out what they were....i put my old laser back in and adjusted the pots and it worked kinda but during the adjusting process i broke off the little adjusting knob and now its like tured all the way up and i cant do anything about it....so ive put the new laser back in and im gonna try adjusting the pots on it but be way more carefull doing this one....if anyone has anyother ideas i would still love to hear them...im a noob at this stuff so anything is apreaciated
