Octapus 3D vs Duo 2 GT ?
Octapus 3D vs Duo 2 GT ? –

I have no clue about anything about these chips.. people say Duo 2 sucks.. why does it suck?
Do both of those require manual mode changing? I dont care about homebrew I jsut want to be able to put in a PS2 Backup and PSX backups without any manual chaning of the modes.. unless its something simple like tap a button X number of times or hold down a button for X amount of seconds etc...
oh and lastly from what I can tell these both are compatible with V3.. is that correct?

Duo2 GT sucks. Duo2 is fine but it's old and it only supports v1-v10 unless you reflash it with the Final ICE code. The Octapus 3D is running modified Final ICE code and supports v1-v16, Dev1 mode, auto boot. But not sure if the Octapus runs well on v14-v16.

if you search the forum, there were threads discussing this chip back a few months ago. you have a v3 then duo2, dou2se, h20 would be very good for it at cheap price.

Duo 2 GT had a lot of bad chips in production. It was unreliable, hence the reason why they released Duo 3. I would go with the Duo 3 over Octapus 3d.

Since this is going in a V3 PS2 I would recommend you go with a chip that supports dev1/2 ... like the Matrix Infinity. More then likely your laser wont be in good enough condition to read recordable media. Yes you can always adjust it and even get a new laser, but you will be hard pressed to actually find a "new" laser for the fat PS2's as it has been rumored that Sony is no longer producing them. So all you will be able to find being sold as new are refurbished lasers with quality that is very hit and miss. With a chip that has dev1/2 you will be able to boot HDL from your memory card or if in dev2 mode you can boot HDL from an HDD in your PS2. Doing this will allow you to play games from the HDD in your PS2 with out the need for any disc in your PS2 and without a 100% working laser. Doing this will also save whatever live your laser does have left. The Duo line of chips does not have Dev1 mode unfortunately
but I believe the octopus 3D does. However you would be better off with a chip like the Infinity, Crystal Chip, or the DMS4 Pro.
