NTSC games on PAL console, B&W ?

Hi all,

I have a SCPH50004 PS2 with a DMS3. Everything is fine except american or japanese games are black & white.

I don't have a TV but I plugged the composite RCA into my PC's Winfast TV2000XP Deluxe TV tuner card, sound is plugged to my soundcard's line in.

I tried different settings on the tuner card (PAL-B, PAL-D, NTSC-M, NTSC-M-J etc.) but nothing works. I either get black & white
(NTSC-M or NTSC-M-J) or color but a distorted screen (PAL-B, PAL-D etc.)

Do you know of any method to have color in NTSC games ? I heard about using a s-video cable ? Is it any use ? Is it simply a problem with the tuner card ? Should I get another one ? Is there any model you know that can handle this ?

I also have an Infocus X1 projector which handles PAL and NTSC just fine but I don't want to burn its lamp playing games for hours ;) These babies come at $300 ...

you could do the pal/ntsc color fix if you know how to solder. (ie installed the chip yourself) look for it in the messiah2 install guide in the FAQs section of this forum.

my friend has a japanese bought PS2 from Asia and he connected it to a Canadian NTSC TV only and it shows B&W but he brought it over to my house and i have a Multi System tv set and all his games play just fine...it is the TV not the PS2 or chip....so either get a colour fix or a PAL to NTSC signal converter....from that chinese site that sells PSX...

short pin 10 to pin 11 (ground on the chip) from left side of chip at the top right area of the board.

not tested but shorting pin 49 to ground should also cure green screen on v9 v10 works on v7 or i cant induce green screen :lol:
so test at your own risk

Yeah I saw your mod to my original picture... (which was by the way of a V9 not a V7 - but not much difference in that area really)

what causes green screen again?? I have not seen many people bothering with green screen fixes since say V3 stations...

green screen is caused when using an rgb lead to play dvd movies no macro is carried so they used green screen as a copy protection measure its pin 49 on the v7 same as v9, v9 uses the same digital encoder as the v7 i believe so not much will have changed pretty much since the v7.
