Gonna install a no-solder chip in a friends PS2 39001 v7 console. Just wondered if there were any problems in playing dvd-r backups or cd-r backups with this mod? I have some EA Sports game so i didnt know if it boots up as easily as my Magic2? thanks

You'll need to do some patching for the EA games.

yep, you wont be able to play almost any dvd-rips, you'll need no-mod patches

spend some more money, and get a real mod

I have a real mod - the magic2. I just didnt want to spend hours putting a magic2 in a friends for the hell of it. so thats why i suggested the no solder mod.

The no-solder mods arn't that bad... if you have a DVD-R burner that is. If you have no need for DVD-rips then the no-solder/ swap magic combo are fine.

i got the pioneer104 dvd-r burner. I have copies of GTA:VC, nba live03, nascar03, nfl 2k3, medal of honor, etc etc. So will these games boot with the nosolder/swap disc mod? I need to know or i will exchange it for a magic2.

Yes those games will boot. I can speak from personal experience on GTA:VC and Medal of Honor. The others I don't have, but I haven't read about any issues with them.

The only game I have not been able to boot with the Swap Magic so far is Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. This game has been verified as not working with the Swap Magic. It is a CD based game (even the original won't boot with the Swap Magic).

I have a PS2 with a no-swap chip, and one with the no-solder/Swap Magic setup, and honestly they both work just as well (with the exception of the extra steps to boot with the Swap Magic). I don't have any DVD-Rips.

If I am having trouble booting at the point of switching Gameshark to DMC (DMC don't load TOC anymore and I get a freeze at "updateinig codes" screen. Might be laser??), will the Swap Magic solve this since there is no "double-swap"?
I know my problem comes when I put in DMC as I can hear the laser after ten seconds. When it did boot, the laser was quiet after 10. I posted about this before and got several possible reasons. I just wonder if the Swap disc will solve my problem.
