no-solder chip question –

assuming that i have a v7 no-solder mod with swap magic cds. and a burned copy of the gameshark cd (newest one). is it possible to boot ps1 games by using the swap magic to boot the gameshark to boot the ps1 game? i know it's tedious, but i don't trust my soldering very much and i would prefer this as a temp solution till i improve my skills

In my experience, you can not boot a boot disc with a boot disc. I have only ever gotten a white screen. Plus, if you use a Swap Magic, you would be booting in PS2 mode, which cannot play PS1 games anyway. The PS2 needs to boot into PS1 mode with a PS1 boot disc in the first place. That is, until someone makes a PS1 emulator for the PS2... maybe they could actually get it to improve the graphics while they're at it
SBox or a genuine PS1 boot disc (eg, PS-X-Change) sounds like your best option. SBox requires just 1 wire soldered.

Only if you have the Gameshark for PS1, and boot it directly, not swap to it. The advantage of the SBox is that you only have to solder 1 wire, onto (relatively) easy points. It should direct boot any PS1 games in your PS2s region, and let you boot PS2 CDs with a swap magic without having to hold down the eject button.
