Newbie questions –
I'm new in the modding world and I have many questions for you guys. First of all, I have a v4 PS2 and I read that v1 to v4 version has difficulty to read DVD+R and DVD±RW. Is it true? Because I want to purchase a DMS3 V2.0 Mod-chip but I don't know if it worth it.
Also, is there better products that have those features?:
- HD support to read backups on it
- Reading backup dvds
- Networking support ( PC to PS2 )
- Sleep mode
- Compatibility with most DVDs
Can you read a burned DVD+/-R movie in your PS2 now? If so, then you shouldn't have too much trouble. If it doesn't work, or works poorly, you will not be able to play games on that laser. You can replace the laser with a new one for about 50 dollars, or you could just get a new/newer used PS2.
Ok thank you for your fast reply. Anyone got an idea about which modchip would be the best for me?
The modchip has nothing to do with:
HD Backup support
HD Backups are done via HDAdvance or HDLoader, both of which do not even need a modchip to function (for real games anyway). All of them should be able to read most DVDs... Most modern chips have sleep mode.
I recommend the Matrix Infinity simply because it's, well, the best. It has great support, frequent firmware upgrades, PAL to NTSC (and NTSC to PAL) in the chip, HDD support for ANY game (so you non-Sony HD shows up as a real one in all games), and a ton of other great features.
For basic playing backups and going online, i would recommend the Duo2SE.. can't beat it.
