    Hello all.

I am a newbie here. It is such a great site for all PS2 related info.
Anyways, I decided to chip my PS2 with either Messiah or Magic to play Japanese games.

Anyways, how many of you actually installed a chip in your PS2 by yourself?? I am thinking of doing this by myself (installation service is not so cheap, apparently) after buying a chip from an online store. How hard would it be for a first timer with a little solder skill??

Any first timer installed a chip successfully??

Thanks for your responses in advance.

do you have any soldering skill ? with a littel practice i guess you can do it too, but be ware there are some models which only pro can do , see most the threads here are " plz quick" "i dont know what i did wrong"... = first timer, i started as i mentioned before and now i'm half pro. (did about 60 pices).
so good luck and buy your chick from someone you can count on there are many clones arround.

    sphereman,

I've only installed one mod-chip myself. I decided I wanted to jump on the bandwagon and mod my V7. I had not even been to this site before I started. I ordered my Magic 3.1 and got install instructions from them. I had a little bit of soldering skill. Never on tight circuits like a motherboard. I had only 1 year of soldering practice back in 10th grade (that was 7 years ago) but I thought I could do it. I knew it would not be easy, AND IT WAS NOT.

I managed to find this site because I had f'd up my PS2. My retailer had directed me to this site cause I told them I was having problems. So I'd say you already have one-up on me. This place is what helped me find my problem.

So if you REALLY want to do it, as it may take a nice long time to finally get it completed, I say go for it. Just go slowly, and I do suggest practicing on something with tight circuits. But if I can do it with the skill I had, then so can you. Good Luck!

V5s and V7s are the easiest for newbies when it comes to soldering. That's also why so many ppl are now modding because it's no longer as difficult as the V1-V4 days.

Just remember, flux is your best friend when you solder.
The Yellow PS2 auto-boots all. PS2, PS1 stealth and DVD movies.

you can get flux paste or flux pen and no chips do not come with wires attached. you need to get 30awg kynar wire from radio shack. Also..you need a higher gauge like 22awg for power and ground wires on the chip.

Nice to see a positive thread on the subject for a change. Usually, all I have seen are replies like "no noob should touch their ps2 because you are going to f*ck it up guaranteed" or others of the sort.
