newb questions: PS2 modchips, scratch before solder?
newb questions: PS2 modchips, scratch before solder? –
hi, I am about to do my first mod next week. I havent done alot of soldering before. Here's a question:
Do i need to scratch anything off before I solder the wire to the pins? (I've heard that something protects the pins). Does this apply to all points? meaning can I directly solder all the wires to the points?
if your soldering to the vias on the bottom side of the motherboard then you need to gently scrape of the coating that protects the vias .. i used a very tiny flathead screwdriver to do this ... also buy some flux
hi... what is flux mainly used for?? and what is a via??

I did a search, now I know what a via is and why it should be cleared before soldering. Still have no ideas about FLUX.
Flux is a paste that is used to make better connection between the solder point and the solder. Using flux will make the solder stick much better.
If you never modded a PS2 before. Look at someone elses mod and try to mimic what that person did.
Take a look at this page: http://ps2newz.net/forums/showthread.php?t=11400
Careful or you'll screw up the PS2.
Anyone have a picture of the vias? is it the little gold flat part on the mobo?
Never seen those things before on my other installs. I was looking at this diagram here.
Are the via points all of 6? Or Q-R, are those vias too?
sorry for the super newb questions
Just want to be 100% confident.
Q-R are pads not vias.
B,I,G,F,H are vias.
Np man ask all you want. The more you know the better chances you'll have of a sucessful mod.
