New RegionX 2.21 v Messiah
New RegionX 2.21 v Messiah –
08-07-2002,07:22 AM
I just bought RegionX direct from Datel, its version 2.21. Weird thing is it comes with a dongle again like the early versions. I have a v5 PAL PS2 with Messiah.
Anyway I can boot it up fine but when i swap over a dvd movie after selecting the region it does not play. I can hear the dvd spinning but it will not play. I've been to www.dvdregionx website to update the codes but the procedure doesn't work. Being up to date release I doubt I need them anyway. Does anyone experienced this and fixed it ?
Thanks

"Double tap RESET when you boot these programs to inhibit Messiah intervention."

what you need to do is treat the region x disc as a dvd in the first place insert the region x double tap reset then just carry on as normal swap disc choose region etc the reason you need to tap reset twice is to put the ps2 in to ps1/dvd mode if you just put the region x in on its own without the double tap the ps2 thinks a ps2 game has been inserted and stays in that mode until you reset the console thats what causes the lockup.

Guys,
I've got 2 versions of DVD Region X from eDonkey (Spanish and full release).
The DVD Region X will only boot on PS2 mode. Entering codes and saving config from player 1.30E does create a file on my memory card (12kb) ... but after selecting Region 1... it freezes, even with Region 2 DVDs (Pal PS2) or Regionless DVDs (Region 0).
The problem with the double tap >> PS1/DVD mode, is that the PS1 logo freezes and DVD Region X never loads up. I only get a Playstation (R) and SCEE(TM) on the screen....
No multi-coloured PS1 Logo!
How could it work anyway, since DVD Region X is coded for the PS2, not the PS1. (Disc appears as black PS1 disc in the browser).
One last thing, did anyone ever got the DVD Region Free iso from Channeltech to work ?... 'cos I didn't.
Is it a fake ?
I'm seriously doubting the possibilities of Region Free DVD playing with the Messiah (Lite)....
And what about disabling Macrovision ? Any PS2 software solution (as opposed to using an expensive external hardware-based Macrovision removing box or a Neo 4, which I won't because the Messiah in already in there)...
My Ps2 is version 4 by the way...
Congratulations to anyone giving me a solution here.... and a logical explanation on how can a PS2 proggie can run in PS1 mode....
Is there anyone developping an actual DVD player software for PS2 (that would skip region protection and Macrovision) rather than just PS2 hacks that only remove region checks.
Easier to say than to do..... I long to get BsPlay for PS2... DVD, DivX, Avi and (S)VCD out of the box...
Is there anybody working on a vcd player that reads standard VCDs and not PSS encoded ones...
I've heard and read about Q-Cast, but as far as I'm concerned, that's still vapourware to me and I'd expect such project from the scene rather than Sunnyvale-based startups with $$$ in mind......
Whoaw... all these requests... seems like I'm very demanding.... well getting to play Region 1 DVDs would be a very nice start... for the rest .. Paradox amazed me with their MP3 player and I'm sure these guys will come up with more BaaadAsss stuff along the lines on a Media Player.... in the DOGGS I trust
Thanx in advance for any help from you guys.

Here is what I found out about messiah (bootmaster?) and dvd region X (or any multiregion dvd sofware).
When you press reset once (ie. PS2 mode), the messiah "injects" a signal for both cd and dvd, and makes the ps2 thinks that they are original ps2 games.
That's why dvd movies won't be recognized in this mode.
When you press reset twice (ie. PSX/DVD movie mode), the messiah "injects" a signal only for cd, and makes the ps2 thinks that they are original PSX games. But, for dvd, the messiah doesn't do anything; So you can insert dvd movies or original ps2 dvd games, and they'll boot.
So, if you wanna use multiregion utilities (dvd region x, action replay 2.2...), here is *in theory* some exemples of what you need to do:
1- You can try to find an original multiregion utility that is on dvd. I don't know if it does (or will ever) exists. If you find one, insert it in the ps2 and double reset: it'll load, and you'll be able to switch with a dvd movie.
2 - You can try to disable the PSX function of the chip. I don't know which wire to cut. But if you do it, the 2nd reset will bring the chip in an "off" status, so ps2 cd (dvd region x and ar 2.2) will work, and the ps2 will recognize dvd movies.
3 - Put an off switch to the chip. I don't know how to it.
4 - Relink the wire of the chips that goes to the reset button's signal to the eject button's signal. I don't know how to do it. This one could be really hazardous, because I don't know how the ps2 and the chip will behave if you do it. If it works, then here is what you'll need to do to play dvd movies :
just open the drawer (= 1 reset = ps2 mode), insert dvd regionx, close drawer ( = 1 reset), wait for dvd regionx to load, select zone, open drawer (done automatically by region x), insert dvd movie, close drawer (=1 reset), and while it's closing, press twice the reset button (= 2 reset) (the drawer will open then close). The chip will then be in PSX/Dvd movie mode, and the dvd movie should load.
Feel free to experiment my theories, and report if they work

I have a similar problem. I couldn´t use the dvd regoion free release from Channeltech (i also think it is a fake) and I have Messiah installed in a PS2 PAL V5. I would like to see my dvd films without green. Please help.

I have had mixed results with DVD Region X 1.9. Messiah didn't want to know but AR2/v2 was fine with multi-region movies on a PAL PS2.
Magic 2 was fine with DVD Region X v1.9 and AR2/v2 on the PAL v5.
I'll be trying it al out again with a PAL v7 next week and an Apple chip.
And yes, boot AR2 with double tap/long reset according to your no swap chip.

if you have the orginal, you can´t use a backup and Messiah it doesen´t work.

The release of region-x from channeltech works just fine but not with messiahs. it works with neo 2.2 and the old ar2.
try to find this "ps2dvd-reg-x-clonecd.zip" and burn it with cdr-win and you will have a perfectly working copy of region-x. all you have to do is put the correct codes on the memorycard for your dvd driver version.

Finally got myself an original AR2 V2 and my PS2 is now multiregion.... Sweeet!
Gotta sort out the macrovision now and it'll be hunky dory!
Anyone knows who sells the "PSX2 Video Stabilizer" chip in the UK (as found on www.foundmy.com).
Or has anyone tried the DVD Video Decoder (MacroVision remover) from www.lik-sang.com ?
If any good, that would spare me having to open my PS2 again and maybe even use it for VHS2VHS dubbing.
Cheers,
Joe
