duo2se, magic kx+ - nonflashable direct boot chips.
crystal chip, dms4 - flashable chips ( i didnt mention MI just because there are lots of clones out there) The flashable chips, allow you to have special menu (kind of like 4th gen xbox chips) where you can do some extra things. ie DMS4 Pro will offers a lot more hdd support functions.
Myself I use the magic kx+ on my slimline ps2. Regardless of what chip you go with they will play pal games, the difference is if they will output pal in ntsc format. DMS4 has a force NTSC option, im sure the CC & MI have this also I just can't remember right now. What you can do though is patch the iso with a pal to ntsc patcher, then burn the game. when you play the game now it will display in ntsc format.
